Why take ART in Middle School?

Art is a wonderful way for students to express their creativity, share their ideas, and tell stories without using words. In middle school, students have the opportunity to choose from several different art classes when completing their course cards, allowing them to explore the type of art that interests them most.

Students may choose 2D Art, which focuses on creating artwork on flat surfaces such as drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media projects. They may also choose 3D Art, where they bring their ideas to life through sculptures, ceramics, clay projects, and other artworks that have height, width, and depth. Both classes encourage creativity, problem-solving, and self-expression while helping students develop valuable artistic skills.

Each year, outstanding student artwork is selected for display at the Florida State Fair and the Pasco County Fair, giving students the opportunity to showcase their talents to a larger audience. Some of our talented artists have even had the privilege of having their artwork displayed in the hallways of the Dade City Courthouse. How cool is that?

Art is much more than drawing and painting. It is filled with history, culture, and stories that connect people across generations. Through art, students learn about different time periods, traditions, and perspectives from around the world. Art also plays an important role in our schools and communities by inspiring creativity, building confidence, and encouraging students to think critically. Whether displayed in a classroom, a community building, or an art show, student artwork helps make our school a more vibrant and welcoming place while reminding us that every artist has a unique story to tell.
